Democrat Anthony Brindisi has a narrow lead following yesterday’s election and is claiming victory over Republican Congresswoman Claudia Tenney.
Brindisi’s margin is less than 2 thousand votes out of 230 thousand cast.
Brindisi pledged in his victory speech last night to remain accessible to the people and to continue holding town hall meetings.
Meanwhile Tenney is refusing to concede, looking toward a recanvas of the votes and the counting of roughly 10,000 absentee ballots.
Republican Dave Harder has been elected to his 6th term as Broome County Sheriff.
Harder handily beat former Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan, taking in 77 percent of the vote.
He tells NewsChannel 34 that this will indeed be his final term in office.
And the Town of Union chose a new leader last night.
Democrat Rick Materese got a healthy victory over Republican Town Councilman Frank Bertoni for Town Supervisor, with 53% of the vote.
Current Supervisor Rose Sotak chose not to run for re-election.
