BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The Discovery Center’s Story Garden was transformed today in celebration of a beloved children’s book and movie.

The 11th annual Summer Carnival honored the classic tale The Wonderful Wizard of Oz written by L Frank Baum, a native of Upstate New York. Kids and adults got to play games, buy food and interact with Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, the Lion, Glenda the Good Witch and Toto too. Interim Director Cheryl Dutko says the carnival is a wonderful celebration of what the Story Garden has to offer.

“There’s things for kids to do with the books so they can pretend their in the secret garden or they can pretend they’re a pirate. It’s just a magical place.”

Dutko says the garden is also a place where parents can remember a little bit of their own childhood and can share the books they read as kids with their own children.
