The Discovery Center has added a new section focused on health care for our 4-legged furry friends.
The interactive children’s museum at Binghamton’s Ross Park cut the ribbon on its new Pet Vet exhibit.
It has an examination table, grooming station and books and displays about being a veterinarian.
Children can don a vet’s lab coat and use their instruments to give check-ups to some resident stuffed animals.
Several real dogs were on hand for today’s ceremony.
Executive Director Abbey Hendrickson says the kids always get excited when animals are brought to the center. “The response is just huge. The kids get right down with the animals, they just love being around them. And we really think it’s an important part of caring for another living thing and continuing that cycle for children.”
The display first opened last month and the staff has been gradually adding to it based on the children’s feedback.
Six local veterinary offices plus the Discovery Center Foundation paid for the exhibit.
Hendrickson says there are several other new exhibits that will be opening soon in the museum.
