Jurors have awarded two families from Susquehanna County more than $4 million in a high profile lawsuit over fracking.
The families from Dimock Township argued that Cabot Oil and Gas had contaminated their drinking water wells by drilling for natural gas nearby.
As Eric Deabill of our sister station in Scranton reports, the two families stood on the courthouse steps and choked back tears of happiness.
Cabot says it plans to appeal and released the following statement:
“Cabot is surprised at the jury’s verdict given the lack of evidence provided by plantiffs in support of their nuisance claim. The verdict disregards overwhelming scientific and factual evidence that Cabot acted as a prudent operator in conducting its operations.”
