The Department of Environmental Conservation seized some unusual and illegal pets in Chenango County recently.
Environmental Conservation Officers executed a search warrant in Norwich on reports that the residents were keeping raccoons as pets.
The ECOs found 13 people living in the house and evidence that the raccoons had lived there but had since been sold to another Norwich resident.
At the location of the new owner, the two raccoons were voluntarily handed over to the officers.
The new owner had been bitten and was told to visit a doctor.
The animals were taken to a local veterinarian to be euthanized and tested for rabies while charges for harboring the animals will be decided at the completion of the investigation.
