According to Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell, 66 people died from drug overdose in 2017.
Cornwell released the overdose breakdown for 2017 this morning.
He says 66 people died from OD, down from 76 in 2016.
41 men and 25 women died with the average age of 40-years old.
62 ODs were attributed to heroin or opioid use.
30% of overdose deaths took place in the City of Binghamton with 12% in Johnson City and 9% in Endicott.
Nearly half of the ODs took place outside the City and Villages.
The deadliest month was February with 11 deaths, followed by nine deaths in March along with eight deaths in May and June.
The information is gathered by Overdose Investigator Jeffrey Wagner, who uses death certificates, police, coroner’s and toxicology reports along with interviews with family members of the deceased.
