Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell released data Monday for overdose drug deaths in the first half of this year.
There were 13 confirmed overdose deaths in Broome County from January 1, to June 30.
That is down from 39 in the first half of 2017 and 36 in 2016.
Of the 13 deaths the average age was 39, with 10 being male and three female.
Nine of the overdoses occurred in Binghamton, three in the Town of Union, and one in Chenango.
Ten of the deaths were attributed to heroin or other opioids.
Cornwell says it’s a positive step but more work needs to be done.
