Cuomo calls for an investigation into strip search of girls

Governor Cuomo has called for an investigation into the strip search allegations at Binghamton’s East Middle School in a statement released on January 30th.

Cuomo says the allegation that girls were strip searched for being hyper and giddy are deeply disturbing and raise serious concerns of racial and gender bias.

He has directed the New York State Police to offer their assistance to local authorities in the investigation and called on the State Department of Education to launch an investigation.

Cuomo says all students in the State of New York should have the right to pursue an education free from discrimination.

The district maintains that it has no evidence that a strip search took place and that it has retained a Syracuse-area law firm to conduct an independent third-party investigation of its own. They have released a statement in regard to Cuomo’s investigation.
