Community celebrates Medicare, Medicaid 53rd anniversary

Members of the community joined together to celebrate and defend a long running government program.

Citizen Action’s Senior Leaders gathered to mark the 53rd anniversary of the adoption of Medicare and Medicaid.

They also used the event to discuss the importance of the health care services and how tax reform is effecting them.

Speak Out Central New York Member Mary Clark says that the House Republicans proposition to cut $2 trillion from Medicare and Medicaid to reduce debt will effect 8.6 million New Yorkers’ health care coverage.

She urges Congresswoman Claudia Tenney to vote to keep funding for the services.

“We’re here to celebrate Medicare and Medicaid. But to say Claudia Tenney keep your hands off our Medicare and Medicaid because we’re not going to have our programs cut to fund the big tax cuts for the very rich,” said Clark.

Clark says they hope to be able to celebrate many more birthdays for the health care plans.

We reached out to Claudia Tenney’s office for comment but did not receive a response.
