Some progressive activists voiced their gratitude for Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo’s work in Albany.
Members of Citizen Action gathered outside the state office building and then delivered flowers to Lupardo for her support of increasing funding for education and health care in the upcoming budget.
Citizen Action member Wanda Campbell says perhaps the biggest cause they support that Lupardo has worked for is fair elections.
She says it’s critical that a small donor matching system is implemented in state elections to help level the playing field for all candidates.
“Donna has stood by many of the issues that we fight for. One of them being public financing of elections which would help get corruption and big money out politics. She’s been a real champion for democracy on that,” says Campbell.
As the final days of negotiations continue before the state budget is final, Citizen Action will be in Albany Monday to rally and meet with members of the state assembly and senate.
Campbell says they also hope to see climate change along with criminal justice reform addressed.
