Thompson and Johnson Equipment is the Greater Binghamton Chamber’s Business of the Week.
It sells and services material handling equipment such as forklifts made by Crown, Toyota and Clark and compact construction vehicles including skid-steer loader and excavators from Bobcat and Bandit.
Founded in Syracuse in 1954, the family-owned business opened a Greater Binghamton branch in 1967.
It moved to its current location on Corporate Drive in Kirkwood in 2010 and has since doubled its staff and tripled its business.
So much so that it’s looking to build an expansion to house its busy service department.
“When we sell a lift truck, we sell the truck and the service together. That’s really our goal is to get the service to the business and quite often they’re bound together in a long-term maintenance agreement. We sell a truck then we take care of it from the day it was born to the day they get a new one,” said LaPlante.
LaPlante says all of its technicians are factory trained.
And Thompson and Johnson employs a safety trainer that can work with a customer’s staff to satisfy insurance and OSHA requirements.
