BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Students returned from the Cross-Examination Debate Association (CEDA) National Tournament, completing their first season for the year.

Over the course of the season, they achieved incredible accomplishments and historic firsts, which include:

  1. Making the final four at CEDA Nationals. Prior to this semifinals appearance that furthest Binghamton has advanced was quarterfinals. We ultimately lost to the team that went on to win the tournament.
  2. Making the sweet sixteen at the National Debate Tournament (NDT) after finishing preliminary debates as the 7th seed. Prior to this appearance, Binghamton has never advanced into elimination rounds at the NDT.
  3. Finished the season ranked as the 10th best overall debate program in the nation by CEDA, had two team members named a part of CEDA’s All American Team, and another two recognized as National Debate Scholars.
  4. Joe Leeson-Schatz, the team’s Director of Debate, was given the Ziegelmueller Award by the NDT. This award is given to the coach of the year and is one of the highest honors someone in an intercollegiate debate can receive.
