The Binghamton University men’s basketball team is just days away from their biggest test of the season.
After already battling on the road with Northwestern and Notre Dame, the Bearcats will face the national runner-ups from a year ago in Michigan.
The Wolverines come into the contest 12-0 and are ranked second in the country, the highest-ranked team BU has ever faced.
Meanwhile, BU is looking to ride a hot hand of their own.
The Bearcats are coming off a dramatic 68-67 win against LIU Brooklyn at the Barclays Center.
J.C. Show hit a game-winning three pointer at the buzzer to lift BU to the victory.
I stopped by the team’s practice yesterday and asked Show about that shot.
Naturally, he gave a very humble, yet honest, answer.
“The last moments were just trying to get a good look with one second left. We were actually quite fortunate to have the ball go off of them. The way that the whole last couple of seconds kind of broke down was, we were quite fortunate and thankful that we were able to execute,” Show said.
The Bearcats will look to ride the momentum from that huge win into Ann Arbor this Sunday.
Freshman guard Sam Sessoms says that the team has had this one circled on the calendar for awhile, and that the tough contests they’ve played in already helped prepare them for this moment.
“We’ve been preparing for this game in particular for a long time. This was always THE big game because they’re, obviously, the best team we’re going to play this year. I think they’re like number two in the country. But, I’m a strong believer in that hard works pays off and my team, me an my teammates have been coming in every day practicing and giving it our all. So, I think we’ll do fine,” says Sessoms.
The Bearcats and Wolverines tip off at 12:00 noon on Sunday.
Then, after Wednesday’s home game against Columbia, BU begins America East play on Saturday against New Hampshire.
