Some future community leaders are joining forces with a local retailer to make certain kids don’t go hungry when they’re away from school.
The Broome Leadership Institute Class of 2019 is holding a food drive for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier’s Backpack program tomorrow at Raymour and Flanigan in Johnson City.
Each BLI class engages in a charitable effort based on what they’ve learned during the 7 month-long leadership program.
The backpack program provides children who receive free lunch at school with food for breaks and the weekend.
BLI Class Member Beau Brinsko says, “The more we can contribute, the more we can have an impact, the better. Through our time at BLI, we’ve understood that we are the future leaders of this area. As well the children are the future leaders of this area.”
The drive takes place tomorrow with BLI members there from 4 to 7, although you can drop off non-perishable food and monetary donations all day long.
Raymour and Flanigan donated $600 to the cause.
