Broome DA warns of cocaine laced with fentanyl

Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell is warning local cocaine users that there is a deadly batch of coke laced with fentanyl that is circulating in our area.

Cornwell joined County Executive Jason Garnar on Wednesday to announce a State of Emergency in Broome due to a rash of opioid overdose deaths.

Cocaine with the synthetic opioid fentanyl mixed in may be a contributing factor.

Cornwell says fentanyl can be 50 to 100 times more powerful than morphine and can become even more deadly when combined with other drugs.
