Broome County is helping local businesses make energy efficiency upgrades with no cost up front.

Broome has partnered with Energize New York to offer the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) finance program.

It provides long-term, low-cost funding to local businesses and non-profits to add solar panels, insulation and more.

A NYSERDA advisor will meet with an owner to determine the cost for upgrades which will be covered by NYSERDA’s partner lending agencies.

Bank of America has committed $75 million toward the program, with Key Bank also participating.

Energize New York Finance Advisor Joe Del Sindaco says it’s a once in a lifetime investment.

“It’s a major opportunity for property owners to secure 100% of the financing available to be able to undertake the project and be able to pay it back over a reasonable amount of time at reasonably low rates of interest,” he said.

Broome County will collect payments on the property owner’s tax bill.

Local businesses dealing with energy efficiency such as the Insulation Man and Southern Tier Solar Works will also help link businesses with the program.

A public meeting will be held on the matter on Thursday, November 3rd at 5:30 p.m.
