Broome County is looking to build a veterans service facility.
The project was discussed at last night’s county legislature meeting.
County Executive Jason Garnar is pushing for a center located at the former Vestal Hills Country Club in the Town of Binghamton that would serve as a one-stop shop for veterans.
The location would be completely renovated to house three organizations, Clear Path for Vets, Southern Tier Veterans Support Group and the county’s own Veterans Service Agency.
Garnar says with everything vets have sacrificed for this country, the least we can do is help simplify life back at home. “I think we’ve been a really strong supporter of veterans for years in Broome County. This is just going to take it up a huge notch. I really think this is going to be a model for communities to follow when we get this place built. It’s going to be the gold standard for how to take care of veterans in your community.”
Broome County is home to over 13,000 veterans.
Garnar says the Vestal Hills facility could be renovated and up and running by Fall of 2020.
