Brindisi on Trump’s emergency declaration

Congressman Anthony Brindisi is also opposed to President Trump’s emergency declaration.

Brindisi visited with veterans this morning at Sitrin Health Care near Utica to deliver some Valentines for Veterans that were created by students and individuals from across the 22nd District.

The freshman Democrat says he agrees with Trump about the need for increased border security, including more physical barriers, border patrol agents and technology such as drones.

But, he says the President has overstepped his authority in order to thwart the will of Congress.

“The constitution is very clear: it’s Congress’s role to appropriate money and to draw down from the Treasury. My worry, over the course of this presidency and even under President Barack Obama, that we’ve seen too much executive overreach, and we need to get back to balance in this country where Congress plays more of a role, as they should under the constitution, appropriating money for particular programs.”

Brindisi also dropped off some of the 200 Valentine’s cards created to residents of the Veterans Home in Oxford.
