Boys and Girls club teens earn money for Summer activities

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Some teens from the Boys and Girls Club of Binghamton were scrubbing, spraying and buffing today to raise money for some fun Summer activities.

The teens held a car wash behind the club from 10 until 2 today. The $5 cost of a wash will go toward funding a variety of field trips planned for the Summer break. The NewsChannel 34 car even got some sprucing up. This year, the kids plan to visit Howe Caverns, Animal Adventure, Skate Estate and more. Teen Center Director Mike Thomas says it’s good for the kids to take an active role in fundraising.

“They like it. It shows them responsibility; it shows them how to get out there and try to earn instead of people giving them stuff. I think it’s a big value and they can learn from it

The teens also raised donations through shredding services offered by Rogers Service Group and ice cream that was donated by Huff Ice Cream.

All of the car washing items were supplied for free by Auto Plus.
