Boy taken to hospital after falling in sinkhole

First responders were called to a home in Horseheads on Sunday when a boy fell into a sinkhole in his family’s backyard.

The incident happened Sunday evening at a house on Watkins Road.

Rebecca Pike says her 14-year-old son was playing in the yard when he fell into a five foot wide hole.

According to Pike, further investigation by the Horseheads Fire Department determined there is water in that hole about six feet deep.

Pike says her son was pretty badly shaken up about about the incident. He was taken to a nearby hospital for x-rays.

No other details are available at this time regarding what caused that sinkhole.
