Binghamton Rumble Ponies get ready for the start of the season

It’s 40 days until opening day for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies and work continues at a feverish pace to get ready for the start of the season.

Mayor Rich David takes a tour of the upgrades going on at NYSEG Stadium with Ponies owner John Hughes.

The $5.1 million project includes $2.5 million from the state, another $2.5 million from the city and Hughes kicking in the remaining $100,000.

Among the renovations, a new video scoreboard and a new video message board, all brand new seats, a fully refurbished clubhouse, new safety netting that is more transparent and netting to keep birds from roosting in the overhang.

Hughes says every portion of the stadium is being impacted.

The project also includes a new sound system, replacing speakers that have been in place since the stadium was first built in 1992, and a new drainage system for the infield to keep rainwater from flooding the home dugout.

Opening day is Thursday April 11th.
