Binghamton Police Department holds open house for potential recruits

Recruitment for the Binghamton Police Department is in full swing.

Monday night the BPD held an open house for potential recruits.

Officers from different departments talked about out the various roles you can have as a police officer.

Recruits were also able to hand in applications for the upcoming police test.

Administrative Captain Larry Hendrickson says the Binghamton Police Department hires about 10 to 15 new cops a year.

He says that there are many benefits to a career in law enforcement.

“It’s a very rewarding job. It’s a job you can give back to your community. Everyday it’s a little bit something different, it’s not sitting behind a desk. There’s a little something different to keep you going each day,” said Hendrickson.

The department holds an exam for new applicants once every other year.

This year’s exam will be held on Saturday, September 15.

The deadline to sign up is this Friday, July 13, and there is a $25 application.
