Binghamton celebrates the beginning of 2019

Businesses and residents across Greater Binghamton are gearing up to celebrate the beginning of 2019.

For local bars, New Year’s Eve marks arguably their biggest night of the year.

Each year waves of people fill the bars in Downtown Binghamton, including the Colonial located on Court Street.

General Manger Marc Yezzi says every New Year’s is all hands on deck.

He says they have to bring on extra bartenders and security to help handle the increased crowd sizes.

Yezzi says that it’s normal for them to reach the maximum capacity allowed by the fire code on New year’s.

He says its always worth it despite the extra work that goes into the holiday.

Binghamton resident Vontel Witherspoon has been a patron of the Downtown Binghamton bars the last few New Years.

He says it is definitely the day that the bars are the most packed.

Witherspoon says seeing everybody out that night celebrating together is part of what makes the holiday great.

On week nights in Binghamton bars normally close by 1am.

However for New Year’s bars that received a permit will be staying open later.
