Members of local law enforcement announced the results of a charitable initiative.

Officers from the Broome County Sheriff’s Corrections Union were at the Mercy House in Endicott to present a check for $3,850.

The department took part in No Shave November to raise money for the Mercy House.

Participating officers each had to contribute $50 to the cause.

The union also stepped in to donate $500 of the total contribution.

Corrections Union President Eric Kuhr says normally officers are not allowed to have facial hair except mustaches.

He says it was a fun incentive for officers to be able to grow out the facial hair while helping the community. The Mercy House is a 10-bed, non-denominational home offering 24/7 care for the terminally ill.

This marks the 2nd year the Sheriff’s Office has taken part in No Shave November to raise money for the Mercy House.
