Battle, Hughes lead Syracuse to dominant win over Wake Forest

Syracuse bounced back from back-to-back losses with a dominant win over Wake Forest on the road, 79-54. 

Tyus Battle led the way with a game-high 21 points. Elijah Hughes chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Syracuse shot 54% from the field and dominated the paint outscoring Wake Forest down low, 44-10. 

After the Orange and Demon Deacons traded buckets in the opening minutes, SU went on an 8-0 run sparked by a Tyus Battle 3-pointer and capped by an Elijah Hughes layup to pull ahead, 18-9 at the 12:38 mark of the first half. Battle led the way for Syracuse with 13 first half points. SU led by as much as 14 in the first half but went into the locker room ahead 38-30. 

In the second half, Wake Forest cut the Syracuse nd half lead down to five with 19:14 to go, but the Orange responded with a 20-2 run to go up 60-37 with 11:14 to go in the game. SU led by as much as 28 as nine different players scored in the game. 

This is just the fourth time Syracuse has shot 50% or better from the field in a win. It’s also just the second time in conference play the Orange pulled out a win, shooting under 30 percent from three-point range. 

The Orange improve to 19-10(10-6) and return home for tis final home game of the regular season with No. 2 Virginia on Monday at 7pm.
