Bandera Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day

A local tradition of spreading cheer on Christmas is ready to go for another year.

The 29th Annual Bandera Christmas Dinner will take place once again on Christmas Day.

The event was started in 1989 by Bill and Caroline Bandera as a way of giving back to the community by offering a free meal to anyone that could attend.

American Legion Post 80 has hosted the event since the beginning, it has since expanded to having a dinner at the Boys and Girls Club in Endicott along with the addition of one in Norwich this year.

Bill Bandera took over the role of organizer from his parents in 2010, he says they serve around 3,200meals a year and it continues to grow.

Bandera says to serve everyone they have over three-thousand pounds of turkey, 98 gallons of gravy, one thousand pounds of potatoes and much more.

The 3,200 meals served includes around 1,500 that are delivered.
