Here’s a free way to introduce the local arts scene to a young audience.
Arts Adventure, taking place next month at the Roberson Museum and Science Center, is a collaboration between Roberson, Tri-Cities Opera, the Binghamton Philharmonic and the Goodwill Theatre.
Each organization will put on performances and interactive activities geared toward kids in kindergarten through 5th grade.
The idea grew out of a challenge issued by the Klee Foundation which offered funding to local non-profits for their collaborative projects.
The organizations say the result was not only a great planned event but also a much better working relationship.
Goodwill Executive Director Naima Kradjian says, “We’re hoping for some cross-pollination from people who already attend the arts. Or, if you’re already coming, please bring a friend who maybe has not tried some of the things that we’re offering. Because we’re really trying to develop new audience and have people really understand the wonderful things that we can do here.”
Arts Adventure takes place from noon until 4 on Sunday March 24th.
The Goodwill Theatre is presenting juggler Will Stafford and a participatory musical pirate performance.
Tri-Cities Opera will present selections from its children’s opera Goldie B. Locks and the Three Singing Bears.
A woodwind quintet of the Philharmonic will perform portions of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf.
And Roberson will offer hands-on activities from making origami pirate hats to teddy bears.
While the event is free, you must register in advance at Roberson.org/artsdashadventure.
