The 2019 Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame Class has been announced.
This year’s group features a dozen new entries from across eight different sports.
Perhaps the most noticeable inductee is former Union Endicott high school football player Arthur Jones.
After playing his college years at Syracuse, Jones went on to the NFL where he won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens and also spent time with the Colts and Redskins.
Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame President Tony Quagliata says the hall wouldn’t be possible without the support from the inductees and the community as a whole. “We started we didn’t know where we were going to go with this. We knew certainly we had a lot of great people we wanted to honor. People always reminisce and as they get older they reminisce a little bit more. The stories may change but people still reminisce. The support has been overwhelming.”
The featured speaker at the induction dinner will be former New York Yankees manager and catcher Joe Girardi.
Girardi won three World Series as a player with the Yankees and one as a manager.
The dinner will take place on April 29th at the DoubleTree Hotel in Binghamton.
Tickets for the event are $65 and can be purchased at AJQsports.com.
