Animal rights activists warn people attending the circus

Animal rights activists are warning people that attend the circus performance in Binghamton that it’s unsafe to ride the elephants.

Compassion Works International or CWI is objecting to the appearance of the Garden Brothers Circus at the Floyd Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.

The organization claims that Garden Brothers uses elephants that have become too old to perform tricks to give paid rides to customers.

CWI alleges that two of these elephants, 50-year-old Betty and 32-year-old Bo, have physical ailments that make them a danger to the riders.

CWI says Betty has an ankle injury and that both animals suffer from tuberculosis which could be transmitted to people.

The owners of the Garden Brothers Circus, the Carden family, did not respond to a request for comment.
