Construction work is underway at the site of the future Chick-fil-A on Route 11 in Cicero.

Central New York’s first Chick-fil-A will be built in a portion of Home Depot’s parking lot that’s been sold.

On Monday, crews began work by fencing the perimeter to keep people out of the construction zone. Trees were also taken down to make more space.

In the coming days and weeks, old pavement will be ripped out to the bare ground before the foundation is laid.

Cicero Town Supervisor Mark Venesky confirmed the construction with the man who owns the local restaurant.

An exact day for the restaurant to open hasn’t been set, but Venesky says February is a likely time.

The owner, in cooperation with corporate Chick-fil-A, plans to host a formal groundbreaking ceremony in the future. We’re told corporate Chick-fil-A is coordinating that event with other restaurants set to open across Upstate New York.

The construction comes after a delay in the project. It was announced in March with construction set for May, but that was put on hold as the company searched for a local owner.
