A Binghamton woman has been sentenced after being found guilty of stealing her dead husband’s Social Security benefits.
62 year-old Patricia Williams was given 5 years probation and ordered to pay over $32,000 in restitution to the Social Security Administration following her conviction on theft of government property and fraud after a four-day trial.
Williams’s husband passed away in 1990 but his death was never reported and she continued to collect his benefits until 2013.
She also collected Social Security Insurance herself for several years without reporting her deceased husband’s benefits.
Williams defrauded the government for over $63,000.
