If you thought you saw a doctor Tuesday that looked a little too young, you were correct.
The UHS Wilson Medical Center held its annual MASH Camp.
Ninth and tenth grade students from a number of area schools put on scrubs and toured various departments at the hospital including respiratory therapy, the pharmacy, labor and delivery, and diagnostic imaging.
At each location, campers got hands-on experience using different pieces of medical equipment.
Nurse Educator Candis Contento says it’s a great opportunity for kids considering a career in medicine.
“It’s really to provide hands-on skills and ideas with our staff. Who provide scenarios and make it as interesting as possible so they will be interested in health care fields. We like to promote that for them,” said Contento.
Twenty students were selected from a pool of nearly 50 applicants for this year’s camp.
To apply students were assigned to write an essay on why they wanted to attend the program.
MASH camp has been held at UHS since 2003.
