Runners are once again getting set for take off.
Preparations are underway for the 2nd Annual Sunset Runway 5K on Saturday, August 11.
The race takes place at The Greater Binghamton Airport giving racers a chance to run along the runway.
This year, the course has been officially certified as a 5K course by U-S-A track and Field.
The inaugural race saw 242 participants take the runway and Director of Parks, Recreation and Youth Services Matt Gawors says registration is up 29 percent from last year at this time.
He says this race is truly a unique experience.
“It’s rare that you get to run on a runway tarmac. You get to run down where the plans take off and land. It’s just a wide open space and it’s really a cool feeling you get rather than just running on a road or a trail,” said Gawors.
Registration is $20 and closes at midnight on August 9.
Early registrants will receive a t-shirt, running bib, one free beverage from Binghamton Brewing Company and official timing.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Twin Tiers Honor Flight.
