The hunt for whomever threw two beagles out of a moving vehicle along Interstate 81 last week has intensified with the offering of a reward for information.
A $16,500 dollar reward is being offered for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for injuring the dogs.
Last Wednesday morning, a truck driver reportedly saw an older Dodge Durango slow down, roll down its rear passenger window and throw the dogs out.
It took place at about 9:30 AM in the southbound lanes just north of the Broome County line.
The animals, which have been named Trooper and Adam, are recovering from their injuries.
Trooper had to have one of his front legs amputated.
The Animal Legal Defense Fund is offering $10,000 toward the reward with PETA kicking in $5,000, the New York State Humane Association $1,500 from an anonymous donor.
Anyone with information is asked to call State Police in Homer at 749-1614.
