Song proceeds donated to support Binghamton school garden

A Binghamton elementary school is receiving some financial fertilizer for its school garden.

Local musician Dana LaCroix presented a $750 donation to the Roosevelt Elementary School at its harvest dinner recently.

The event included a feast served with produce grown in the school’s garden including potatoes, cucumbers and beets.

LaCroix, who recently returned to the area, caught wind of the garden and crafted a song with students that she teaches in the Cooperstown area.

They recorded it in her studio, sold it online and donated the proceeds from the song to the school.

LaCroix says now they want to create a garden of their own.

“I think the kids that were involved in the song writing process, even though they don’t have a garden at their school, raised their interest and awareness in school gardens and maybe it will plant a seed for them,” said LaCroix.

The song can be heard online at the Garden Groove Project website, where LaCroix hopes to raise more money for school programs related to healthy eating.

The garden is supported by the Broome County United Way.
