Women-Only Learn to Swim Class Offered at JCC

From JCC:

The JCC is offering a Learn to Swim class for women only on Tuesday mornings from 9:30-10:15am starting January 14 through March 4th. The class is open to women throughout the community. Cost is $70, or JCC member value rate of $40. The JCC is located at 500 Clubhouse Road in Vestal. Register by calling the JCC at 607-724-2417.

This class is designed for women only, taught by a female instructor. Benefits to learning how to swim are aplenty. Not only can it offer health benefits, but it can also save a life. “Drowning has been reported as one of the most common causes for accidental deaths worldwide,” says Patrick Harnan, JCC Aquatics Director.

Apart from physical fitness, swimming can improve the overall mental health of the swimmer. Swimming is an excellent way to reduce anxiety. Water pressure has a soothing effect on the body and helps in calming the mind and improving physiological well-being.

“Don't put it off any longer, learn to be more comfortable in the water,” says Harnan. “Participants will get to work at their own pace as they learn to enjoy swimming like they never thought they would.”

The JCC is a not-for-profit agency and beneficiary agency of the United Way and the Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton that serves the community at large regardless of age, race, religion, and sexual orientation. Scholarship assistance is offered to all who qualify as long as funds are available.
