Weitsman Helps Red Cross Raise Money

Ben Weitsman and Son has teamed up with the American Red Cross to help the organization raise money.

From now through next June, people recycling scrap metal can ask Weitsman to give the money they would have received to the Red Cross. In our area, Weitsman has recycling operations in Binghamton and Owego. The effort is called Metal for the Mission.

"All of the money will stay within central New York and it will help us to provide disaster response. We head into fire season, unfortunately, with this kind of weather. We see people do alternate forms of heating in their homes, which often times is not safe," said community executive Shelley Bierwiler.

"We've been looking to do something with the Red Cross for a long time and this is just something, it's a joint venture that we could do together. It makes sense. Scrap prices are really high right now, so it will generate a lot of revenue to the Red Cross," said Adam Weitsman.

Weitsman and Son is also giving the Red Cross a $25,000 donation.
