Upcoming Vote on Vestal Fire Truck Purchase

The Vestal Fire Department is raising awareness of an upcoming vote to replace one of its emergency vehicles.
The Vestal Fire Department is raising awareness of an upcoming vote to replace one of its emergency vehicles.

In about a week and a half, people will decide whether to approve buying a $675,000 truck. The emergency vehicle that is slated to be replaced is 27 years-old and has been running into repair problems. It is used to carry rescue equipment, including the jaws of life to accident scenes.

"The significant factor of it all is that there is no increase in tax dollars to the tax payer at all. We've got some bonds...they have been paid off, so that money is going into a capital reserve fund and we can utilize part of that to replace this truck and the other part will stay in that capital reserve," said Assistant Chief Douglas Rose.

There will be two informational sessions before the vote. They will be this coming Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Vestal Hills Elementary School. And, on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Vestal High School. The vote takes place November 19th at the Vestal Town Hall from Noon until 9 p.m.
