SU alum raising money to send children to watch Orange play in Texas Bowl

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - It started as a small plan to collect enough money to send 200 children to see the Orange play in the Texas Bowl. But that number has quickly grown to more than 1,100.

Sports blogger and Syracuse University alum Sean Keeley says he kept hearing from Orange fans who couldn't make the trip to Texas, but still wanted to be involved in the bowl game.

So Keeley worked out a deal with the stadium.

If he collected the money for the tickets, the stadium would reach out to children's programs in Houston to provide the children with the experience of rooting for the team while filling the stands with orange.

As of Tuesday, more than $35,000 has been raised, which is enough to send about 1,100 children to the game.

Keeley has set a new goal of $44,000 in honor of the iconic number for Syracuse.
