Snow and Ski Season at Greek Peak

With a two foot base of man-made and natural snow, and another eight inches or so on the way, Greek Peak Mountain Resort is fully open this weekend.
With a two foot base of man-made and natural snow, and another eight inches or so on the way, Greek Peak Mountain Resort is fully open this weekend.

The mountain's new quad lift was undergoing some load testing today in preparation for carrying skiers and boarders starting sometime next week. The new lift is 20 percent faster and hauls twice as many people as the old lift. And its conveyor belt like loading carpet is expected to dramatically reduce stoppages.

Greek Peak's new pump house and compressors have been working full-bore creating snow to augment the real stuff. New owners John Meier and Marc Stemerman say they're making a long-term commitment.

"Our families have learned to ski at Greek Peak. And our emphasis as the new ownership here at Greek Peak is to invest back in this mountain. This lift is exhibit A in that regard.," said Meier.

"It's the earliest we've opened in 12 years and Mother Nature is cooperating with a lot of snow coming this weekend. We had over a foot during the week and we couldn't be happier. We've even been out there sampling," said Stemerman.

Trax Pub and Grill served its first customers as part of a soft opening. The grand opening is next Friday for the $1.2 million eatery that replaces Orion's Pub. Trax boasts brick oven pizza, a new menu by a new executive chef, 20 beers on tap, lots of TV's and live music each Saturday. And it has a Northwoods décor to match Hope Lake Lodge.

Night skiing begins tonight and the mounatin will be open seven days a week going forward. For more details and conditions, go to greekpeakmtnresort.com.
