Savemore Helps Fire Victims

A Berkshire family has received an early Thanksgiving blessing.
A Berkshire family has received an early Thanksgiving blessing.

The Bean family had their home destroyed by fire, about two weeks ago. Ken Bean is actually an assistant chief with the Berskshire Volunteer Fire Department and helped fight the fire. When Savemore Furniture in Owego found out about the Bean's loss, the company gave the family an $8,000 shopping spree. The charities Beds 4 Kids and Coats N Clothes 4 Kids, which are operated by the owner of Savemore, also gave the family items. Bean says he's grateful for the help.

"Pretty much the whole house full, bedroom furniture, living room furniture for everyone. It means a lot. It's unbelievable how much it means to us," said Bean.

"They lost everything in their home. I thought in the spirit of Thanksgiving that this would be a really good family to help out," said owner Leonard Hilldale.

NBT locations are also accepting cash donations to help the Bean family.
