Ryan to be at Fracking Rally at State of the State Address

Fractivists are planning to rally at Governor Cuomo's State of the State Address this week.
Fractivists are planning to rally at Governor Cuomo's State of the State Address this week. Former Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan will be among them. The group will be leaving Binghamton early Wednesday morning.

Ryan says he's now in a good spot financially to advocate for causes he's passionate about, because of his years of public service. He has 30 years of credit towards his retirement after being Mayor for the past 8 years and working a combined 23 years in the Division of Youth and as a public defender. Ryan says his message to the Governor hasn't changed.

"We don't want to be a sacrifice zone for this industry. We want a comprehensive healthcare and impact study done before one well is drilled in New York State. That's what should be done. It has never been done any place in the country," said Ryan.

Ryan also plans to get involved in a sustainabilty initiative at Cornell. He says he was approached by a semi-retired professor at the University to help out. He'll also be reactivating his law license. Ryan will soon be moving to Ithaca where his wife works.
