Owego-Apalachin Middle School students are making gifts for residents at a local nursing home.

For the past 3 months, a group of 6th, 7th and 8th graders have been making wooden Santas, with moveable arms and legs, in their modified technology class. The students create the elaborate gifts from a piece of wood and even get to use power tools. 6th graders Hailey McFadden and John Bement say they're having fun.

"We wanted to make the other people special so that we could make them feel joyful," said McFadden.

"We painted them, cut the wood for them and materials. We would paint the face and put the beard on, paint that white and paint the suit red and put the eyes, eye brows and mouth," said Bement.

The 40 Santas will be gift wrapped and delivered to Riverview Nursing Home in Owego on December 20th.
