Norwich Man Writes 'Hillbilly Literature'

A Norwich man has made his literary debut by writing Hillbilly Literature.
A Norwich man has made his literary debut by writing Hillbilly Literature.

That's the name of a collection of five short stories by Herb Ryan. The former portrait photographer and bar owner says he takes a loving look at rural culture by chronicling some of the characters he's gotten to know. Ryan says many of the stories are concerned with mortality, an issue he's been thinking about.

"Time is growing short. And it's growing shorter every day. I think I was actually born to write and I think it's about time I got to it," said Ryan.

Ryan says this is just the first volume in a series of Hillbilly tales. He says each book will cost $5 which translates to a dollar a story. This Saturday, Ryan will be signing his book at the Parson's Daughter on East Park in Norwich from 1 to 4 p.m.
