The Mirabito Broome County Stop DWI Holiday Classic tips off later this month.
The Mirabito Broome County Stop DWI Holiday Classic tips off later this month.

The tournament features high school basketball teams from around our region and the northeast. Over the years, some of the students who have played in the tournament have gone onto the NBA and NFL. The action runs December 27th through the 30th at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

New this year, there will be an Aldo Rossi Memorial Game in honor of the Port Dickinson Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty by a drunk driver in 2008. Police officers will play against each other in the hour long game designed to raise funds for the Crime Victims Assistance Center and awareness of the dangers of drunk driving.

"Drunk driving affects so many people, there are so many victims. For example, the Aldo Rossi accident, I was one of the first people on the scene for that. You don't realize by making a few bad decisions, you affect a lot of lives," said BPD officer Brad Kaczynski.

The Aldo Rossi Memorial Game will be played Friday December 27th at 5:30 p.m. Afterward, there will be the slam dunk and 3 point contest. $10 gets you into all three events. The first round of the tournament gets going on the 28th.
