Lt. Governor Talks Texting While Driving Proposal

Governor Andrew Cuomo is proposing to create harsher penalties for teen drivers who are caught texting while driving.
Governor Andrew Cuomo is proposing to create harsher penalties for teen drivers who are caught texting while driving. Cuomo says their licenses should be taken away for one year.

A student asked Duffy why it would only apply to younger people and not everyone, because the activity is so dangerous. Duffy says he agrees that any new law should be more encompassing.

"I thought it was a point well taken. Whether it reaches the legislative chambers this year, I don't know. But, it's something I'll carry back to the Governor and I think it makes all the sense in the world," said Duffy.

Governor Cuomo also wants tougher penalties for drunk and drugged driving. People who have two DWI convictions in a three year period could lose their license for five years. New York State could also permanently take away driving privileges for anyone who gets three DWI convictions in their lifetime.
