The Lesbian and Gay Family Building Project is now headquartered at Binghamton University. The project was founded in 2000 and is funded by grants from the state Department of Health. It helps prospective gay and lesbian parents across Upstate New York learn about adoption and surrogacy and social events for the entire family.

"We do one type of programming that involves gathering in a hotel, somewhere in Upstate New York for a weekend every few years. Our families come and sort of take over the hotel. It's a very, very nice experience for the kids and also the adults to feel like they're in the majority for a change," said project director Claudia Stallman.
