Gladiator Showdown

A Binghamton University coach is in the running to be named the fiercest gladiator in the land.

Assistant Track and Field Coach Gabe Fletcher is entered in the Amazon.com Gladiator Showdown. It's an online voting contest based solely on how brutish he looks in a photo his family submitted. Fletcher coaches throwing at B.U. from shot put to discus to javelin and hammer. But the picture in the contest is of Fletcher tossing a caber, which is essentially a tall tree, during the Ithaca Scottish Games four years ago.

"Scottish Games are a good hobby. Gives you something to train for. Other guys who have thrown in college do it after college. We have fun up there and kind of entertain the crowd sometimes too," said Fletcher.

Fletcher also currently holds the B.U. bench press record of 390 pounds. He's currently one of 16 finalists in the Gladiator Showdown with each day being a single elimination contest. The winner gets a trip to Rome, Italy.

To vote for Fletcher, go to Amazon's Facebook page and look for Gladiator Showdown. You must vote today for him to advance past Roger.
