First Friday: Cooperative Photo Contest

The third annual Bob Johnston Memorial Photography Show and Competition is bigger than ever.
The third annual Bob Johnston Memorial Photography Show and Competition is bigger than ever.

110 photographs from 47 artists were submitted to the exhibit that takes place each year at the Cooperative Gallery 213 on State St. in Binghamton. The competition is co-sponsored by the gallery and the Two Rivers Photo Club. Local professional photographers Kirk and Lesli VanZandbergen judge the show with prizes going to the Best in Show and two choices each for color and black and white.

Coordinator Geoff Gould says the show is getting bigger and better.

"I've seen a great deal of improvement. Not just in the computer technology, although that certainly is helpful, but I think people are actively learning more. And there are many sources but I still think the photo club in the area is a real treasure," said Gould.

The VanZandbergens will announce the winners Friday evening at seven during the opening reception which is part of the monthly First Friday Art Walk. The Two Rivers Photo Club will begin Saturday photography classes this week at the George F. Johnson Memorial Library in Endicott. For more details, go to 2RPC.com.
