A local engineering firm is promoting good health and charity in a challenge to its employees.

Delta Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors offered to donate $1 for every mile its workers walked or ran. 26 employees racked up over a thousand miles so a check for $1,017 was presented to the Be The Match national bone marrow registry.

"If a person needs a bone marrow transplant, that tends to mean that they have exhausted everything else that medical science has. They need a bone marrow transplant to literally save their life," said Michael Garbin.

"It's nice to be able to encourage employees to be very fit, and also to select a charity and have your employees aid in that selection and then to give some money to them," said Darlene Cempa.

Be The Match was nominated by an employee who has a relative in need of a bone marrow transplant.
